There are several instances where it is required that a page be moved to a new title:
- The title has been misspelt.
- The title does not follow STEU's naming conventions.
- To disambiguate the article from a similarly named article where sharing one article would not be appropriate (different topics/universes/episode names from different productions).
- The scope of the article has been changed.
If a page is moved the old namespace is automatically changed into a redirect to the new namespace. In some cases it is also advisable to edit pages to link to the new namespace rather than the redirect, particularly in cases where it is likely the redirect will be deleted (most likely for incorrectly spelt namespaces).
This process is only possible if the namespace of the new page does not already exist. If the namespace does exist you will receive an error message. Either choose a new namespace, contact an admin for help or see if the article is could be merged with the existing article.
Prior to the Mediawiki 1.14 upgrades Image: namespaces could not be moved, however the new File: namespace (which has replaced Image:) can be moved much the same way as pages. Category: namespaces are not moveable. If a category's name needs to be change it must be created under the new namespace and all articles categorised into the old category must be then edited to point to the new category.
