The IKS Klongat was a K't'inga class battlecruiser that served in the mid-24th century. It served as the flagship of General ShiVang.
At some point, the ship was attacked by Romulans. A civilian labourer, Martok, heroically aided the defence of the ship and so received a battlefield commission. Martok had come from a long line of warriors, but his application for officer training was rejected by Kor, and this prevented him from even being a common soldier.
In an alternate timeline, the Klongat responded to a distress call from Omicron Theta before the USS Tripoli, which led to the Klingon Defence Force crew rescuing and adopting the android Data. The crew then worked to prove Data's personhood to prevent Starfleet Lieutenant Bruce Maddox attempt to acquire Data by claiming him as Federation property under the Acts of Cumberland.
