The Imperium of Man was a Human supremacist empire that existed in a possible 41st millennium. It could be seen as a successor state to the United Federation of Planets. The only glimpse of it so far is a duplication of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) in 2268 which then pulled one of the ships into the possible far future. Even then, the Enterprise that continued to Vulcan unaware of the duplication.
Geography[edit | edit source]
The Imperium controlled around a million worlds across the galaxy, but this did not form a continuous realm. Some of these worlds contained hives- large cities that were effectively giant apartment blocks, others were giant factories, many giant farms, and a few were giant gardens.
Politics[edit | edit source]
The Imperium had several institutions that all acted semi-autonomously. For example, the Imperium's technical expertise was concentrated in the Adeptus Mechanicus whilst religious matters were run by the Eccleisarchy. The lack of central control meant that all these groups had their own sub-factions. These division proved both fortunate and fatal for the Enterprise.
Racial views[edit | edit source]
Although the Imperium was Human-supremacist to the point it was ready to commit genocide on even harmless alien races, it actually had a different definition of humanity to the races of the 23rd century. It is speculated that the difference between the Imperial Gothic language and Federation Standard means that the Imperium actually sees many types of humanoids as Human.
Another possibility is that the Imperium's semi-mythical Emperor had several avatars in the 23rd and 24th centuries that were members of other humanoid species. These avatars may have included Talas, Soval, Jean-Luc Picard, and Martok.
When the Enterprise first met the Blood Ravens, the Vulcan Spock and the Vulcan-Andorian Talunas were able to visit the Bibliothèque without incident and encountered Orions, Vulcans, and Bolians. Similarly, the Imperial Space Marine Gabriel Angelos merely saw the Bolian Ensign Yoqra as a blue Human.
Member races[edit | edit source]
Due to either a linguistic difference or the nature of the Imperium's Emperor, all Imperial races are considered 'Human'. Further variations of Humanity from the existing species are known as Abhumans.
