Iowa is a state located in the central region of the United States, bordering Minnesota to the north, Wisconsin and Illinois to the east, South Dakota to the northwest, Nebraska to the west and Missouri to the south. It was the 29th state to join the union. It is bordered by the Mississippi river directly to the east.
It is nicknamed the "Hawkeye State". The state has some large urban areas, a number of smaller cities, and many small towns. Des Moines is the state capital and is the largest metro area. Cedar Rapids, Davenport and Sioux City are other large cities. Residents of Iowa are properly known as "Iowans".
The abbreviation for this region was IA (TNG: "The Neutral Zone").
In 3109, Richard Daniels was sent on a mission to 1959 and the town of Clear Lake, in order to assure the deaths of three rock 'n roll musicians (Times of the HG Wells: A Long, Long Time Ago).
