Captain Jonathan Thomas Esteban was a Starfleet science officer and line officer in Starfleet service in the 23rd century. Esteban was commanding officer of the science vessel USS Grissom (NCC-638). To many, he was known as J. T.
Esteban was born in 2233. At some point he would marry and later divorce his partner. During his Starfleet career he would become close friends with Lawrence Styles, who would rise to the rank of captain and be given command of the prototype, USS Excelsior. A by-the-book officer he had the personal creed of 'seeing is believing', which led to him been nicknamed "doubting Thomas" by his crew. (Star Trek: Grissom)
Esteban's career came to an abrupt end in 2285 when the Grissom was assigned to study the Genesis Planet. The Grissom was destroyed in orbit of the planet during a surprise attack by a Klingon Bird-of-Prey commanded by Commander Kruge, killing all aboard the vessel including Esteban.
