James Morgan was the MACO commanding officer, as well as the executive officer, aboard the USS Horizon in 2383, he was formerly the MACO commanding officer on the USS Pioneer. (Star Trek: Far Horizons, Star Trek: Pioneer)

Childhood[]

James Morgan was an orphan and grew up in an orphanage in Billings, Montana. While at the orphanage, he became good friends with Benjamin Kelsoe. When the Brooke family adopted Kelsoe, they stayed in touch, and met again when Kelsoe was attending the Starfleet Academy and was training with the Starfleet Marine Corps. ("The Hornet's Nest")

MACOs return[]

In 2382, with the approach of the Coalition War, Starfleet Command issued an order to reinstate the MACOs. Morgan was promoted to Major and given command of a MACO unit aboard the USS Pioneer. ("The Hornet's Nest")

Assigned to Horizon Project[]

In 2383, Morgan was recruited by Field General Robert Tuff, Sr. to serve as the MACO commanding officer aboard the USS Horizon, in addition to joining the Horizon Project, Field General Tuff promoted Morgan to Lieutenant Colonel. ("Jump")

Stranded[]

Morgan, along with all the rest aboard the Horizon, were lost when the Breen attacked the Horizon during the jump test in the Dallos Cluster. Commander Keller made Morgan the ship's executive officer. And after a series of uncontrolled jumps, as a result of the damage from the Breen attack and some unusual anomalies, the Horizon appeared in the Treelan system, where the crew met a hospitable race. Conglomeration attack[]

The Horizon was attacked by a massive hiveship of the Avkon Conglomeration. Six crewmen from an away team on PM45 were abducted, and three were killed. During the hiveship attack on the Horizon, Morgan showed his metal as a first officer, ensuring the ship responded properly to a hostile attack. When it was discovered that six crewmen had been captured by the Alvonian and taken aboard the hiveship, Keller order Morgan to take a MACO assault team over and rescue them. ("Conglomeration")

Safe harbor[]

Along with the rest of the crew, Morgan believed that they found a safe harbor when they encountered a mobile space station known as Sanctuary Outpost. While watching the repairs being made to engineering, Morgan and Lieutenant Gomez were abducted by the Administrator. ("Sanctuary")
