Captain Jeffery Pierce was the Commanding Officer aboard the USS Hathaway durning it's maiden voyages and earlest missions.
Early Life and Career
Jeffery Pierce was born in Ohio, US, North America, Earth in the year 2246 to Devon amd Elizabeth Pierce. In 2250 his father dies in the service of the United Federation of Planets. The death of his father serves as a driving force in his life which ultimately leads to his entering Starfleet. In 2267 he is assigned to the starship Potempkin in the sciences division specializing in astronomy, astrophysics and planetology. He eventually enters command training with the sponsorship of Captain J.T. Esteban and eventually attains the rank of Commander in 2277. He is then assigned as First Officer of Potempkin where he serves for seven years until being promoted to Captain in 2284. He was one of many candidates to enter into consideration for U.S.S. Excelsior (NX-2000) but lost out to Thaddeus Styles. Pierce was later assigned as the commanding officer of the second Constellation-class starship (known as the other 'great experiment') U.S.S. Hathaway.
(Author's Note: There is no canon reference to the first name of Captain Styles from Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. The name "Thaddeus" was created by Brad Hathaway, author of the 'Genesis' pilot episode.)

He became fast friends with an Orion Ensign named, Lara while stationed on the USS Potemkin. In 2277 he was promoted to Commander and assigned as the USS Potempkin (NCC-1657), newest First Officer.
