Commander Jennifer Ripley was the First officer of the USS Baldwin, at the time of her death in 2309.
During a mission of exploration of the Aloran Sector, the Baldwin would encounter a hostile Cardassian warship. Baldwin was able to destroy the enemy vessel, but at the cost of a hull breach on the bridge which blew out the bridge crew, including Commander Ingrum. His crew would subsequently abandon ship.
Her great-grandson Patrick R. Ingrum, named after the Baldwin's original captain, would recover the Baldwin nearly 65 years later and become Baldwin's second captain. (USS Baldwin: "Two of Us")
