John Harriman in 2306 |
John Jason Harriman, Jr. was a Starfleet line officer in the late-23rd century, serving well into the 24th century. He was notable for his tenure as commanding officer of the USS Enterprise-B, which began in 2293. Harriman's early days as Enterprise captain were overshadowed by the events of the vessel's shakedown cruise: the Enterprise rescued 47 El-Aurian refugees from the nexus ribbon, but retired Captain James T. Kirk was lost. (Star Trek Generations)
- His father's given name and their middle names were revealed in the TOS novel: The Captain's Daughter and The Lost Era novel: Serpents Among the Ruins.
Fan continuities[]
Star Trek: Of Gods and Men[]
In the years following the nexus incident, Captain Harriman came to be friends with Nyota Uhura and Pavel Chekov. He was present for the launch of the museum ship USS Enterprise-M in 2306. When the ship received a distress signal from a beacon orbiting Gateway, Harriman, Chekov and Uhura beamed down to investigate, and were confronted by Charlie Evans. (Star Trek: Of Gods and Men)
Orion Press[]
John Harriman's father was Vice Admiral Burgess "Hardass" Harriman.
Harriman was born in 2254. He committed suicide following the apparent death of James T. Kirk on the Enterprise-B in 2294. (Orion Press: Chekov's Enterprise)
Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era[]
Harriman would continue to serve as the commanding officer of the Enterprise-B until 2307 when the Enterprise was lost with all hands. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era)
Star Trek: Excelsior[]
Harriman had left command of the Enterprise-B sometime before 2311, when Pavel Chekov was the ship's captain during the Tomed Incident. ("Tomorrow's Excelsior")
Star Trek: Pendragon[]
Harriman commanded the Enterprise-B until 2311, following the Tomed Incident, when he left the captaincy. Taking his accrued leave time, Harriman married his long-time lover, Amina Sasine. (Star Trek: The Lost Era novel: Serpents Among the Ruins).
Seen as an expert on the Romulans, Harriman eventually joined Starfleet Intelligence and began a series of deep-cover operations behind the Neutral Zone.
He eventually rose to the admiralty, and by the 2330s, was in command of Starbase 53. At that time, Admiral Harriman was still heavily involved in Starfleet Intelligence, and recruited numerous operatives, including Mark Coleman, who became his protégé.
In 2341, Harriman had Coleman reassigned from the investigation of Enclave J-12 and the death of Jacob Sinclair. Harriman later recommended Coleman for the admiralty in 2356.
