Captain John Edward Knapp was a 24th century Starfleet officer and twin brother of fellow Starfleet officer Ian Knapp.

In 2375, during the Dominion War, Knapp was confronted, on board his command the USS Orion, by a Changeling infiltrator who boarded the Orion in the guise of Commander Bur'Roun. The shapeshifter stabbed Knapp through the heart, killing him and then began using the captain's likeness.
