Karen Merrill

Captain Karen Merrill was a Starfleet officer in the late 24th century. She was the commanding officer of the USS Ticonderoga, and was previously chief engineer of the USS Baldwin.

Starfleet career

As a student, Kanen was interested in general architecture. After her freshman year in college, she decided that designing starships would be her best path and transferred to Starfleet Academy. After graduating, Karen was assigned to work in the Utopia Plantia yards as a junior designer and assisted with the finishing touches of the Sovereign-class, and was also assigned to field tests aboard the USS Enterprise-E. Familiar with the design of the E-E, Karen was called back to help restore the ship after being partially assimilated by the Borg. Impressed with her knowledge of ship design and adaptability on the field, Patrick Ingrum offered her the chief engineer's position aboard his new ship, the re-commissioned USS Baldwin, even though engineering was not her specialty. Karen's duties aboard the Baldwin included maintenance of an experimental Interphase cloaking device.(USS Baldwin: "The Find")

Karen was impressed by the knowledge of Bridget that she was glad that Starfleet awarded her a battlefield commission. (USS Baldwin: "Wartime Productions")

In 2375, because of her familiarity with the Enterprise-E, Patrick asked her to take command of the USS Ticonderoga on a mission to the Briar Patch to assist with installing a warp core aboard the Enterprise (USS Baldwin: "Only the Young"). Eventually, her command of the Ticonderoga was made permanent.
