Kimberly Bautista ("Kimmie" to her friends) was the tactical officer of the starship USS Lexington. (The Lexington Adventures).
Early life & career[]
Kimberly Bautista was somewhat a rarity, even in Starfleet. There were not many Filipinos in Starfleet, though this was completely unintentional in many respects. Probably one of the better known of these officers was Kimberly simply because of her family and her background.
What made her unique was the fact that early in her training, it was clear she was a natural when it came to weapons and battle tactics. In short order, she was at the top of her class in these areas but she struggled in math and some of the sciences and almost flunked out twice. However, she persevered and made the grade; she graduated magna cum laude of her class. Since the role of “tactical officer” was being introduced to Starfleet, it only made sense to put a natural at the fire controls of some of the most advanced starships in Starfleet.
In 2284, she applied to the Starfleet Officer Candidate Program that allowed a senior non-commissioned officer to earn a commission and this time, as a Master Chief Petty Officer, she was accepted. She attended classes at Starfleet Academy and her workload was somewhat less as she had the field experience to “test out” of many of the basic classes. However, she still had to attend the final two years and graduated at age 41 with a Lieutenant (junior grade) commission.
