The Larson-class destroyers were a class of starship on active duty in Starfleet during the 23rd century. (FASA RPG: Federation Ship Recognition Manual) They were first commissioned in 2227.(Citation needed)
- The lead ship and prototype, USS Larson, entered active service on reference stardate 1/8801, which translates to January, 2244. (Federation Ship Recognition Manual)
The Larsons were named after famous military leaders or battles, on Earth or offworld. (The exception is USS Thelenth, after an Andorian admiral who defeated Klingon forces in a pitched battle at Donovan's Star.) The class ship was named for Admiral William G. Larson, a hero of the Battle of Gamma Hydra during the Earth-Romulan War.
