The Liberation of Benzar was a Romulan offensive against the occupying Dominion forces holding Benzar during the Dominion War in 2374. (LUG RPG: The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon)
With previous Starfleet and Klingon Defense Force assaults unsuccessful Starfleet Command turned to the recently joined Romulan Star Navy for the assault against the Dominion forces.
The Romulan fleet decloaked at the outer defenses and quickly overwhelmed them with its powerful starships. The inner defense perimeter offered a higher level of resistance but within an hour the Romulans had broken through. Now facing the hardened defenses around Benzar the Romulans charged forward to engage it. At the same time a number of cloaked Romulan vessels revealed themselves behind Benzar's defense perimeter. Trapped between both assaults the Dominion held out for three hours before the Romulans claimed victory in space. The Romulan forces took thousands of prisoners and captured several enemy starships.
On Benzar itself the occupying forces were cut off from support but fought on. Thousands of Benzites were killed in the week it took before Romulan troops finally secured the planet, freeing it from Dominion occupation.
While Starfleet was pleased by the result and the Romulans had proved themselves to be a powerful ally, there were concerns in some sectors about whether the Romulans would just leave Benzar after the war ended. (DS9: "The Reckoning")
