The Lion-class dreadnought was among the largest ships fielded by the Lyran Star Empire in the 24th century. It was more maneuverable than the Federation Nebula class and its 2385 iteration was more maneuverable than a Norexan-class ship. (RIS Bouteina: "Battle at the Grave of Thoughts")

History[]

As other races began to construct dreadnoughts, the Lyrans wasted a lot of time debating the issue. Opinion was (as is traditional with the Lyrans) divided along clan lines. As a result, when the Pac-Man dreadnought was commissioned, and the first Klingon PumwI' class was preparing for sale later this year, the Lyrans had not even started construction. Panic finally produced a consensus and the design that could provide a DN in the shortest amount of time was selected. Fortunately, this design proved to be very successful.

The Lion DN, even after all the refits, was not considered viable after the introduction of other heavy dreadnoughts. The Lyrans were the last to introduce a major refit that added additional weaponry and defenses beyond was earlier thought to be possible with the Lion hull. The result was the Gir Lion DNH. It was easily the equal of the pre-MVAM Hydran Paladin-class dreadnoughts. (TOS video game: Starfleet Command)

A Gir Lion dreadnought fought alongside the RIS Bouteina at the Grave of Thoughts. (RIS Bouteina: "Battle at the Grave of Thoughts")

Its successor was the Stoneship class. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files)
