In starship classification a long-range tactical cruiser is a heavily armed starship designed for combat. These ships have a streamlined design, powerful deflector shields, armor, multiple weapons, and are capable of sustained high warp speeds. They have enough consumables onboard to undertake long-distance duration voyages. The long-range tactical cruiser classification is a euphemistic classification for one type of vessel among which are considered the Federation's warships.
