Lieutenant Manuele Atoa served as the tactical officer of the USS Sutherland from 2371 through the Dominion War.

Lieutenant Atoa has performed in several covert operations including, but not limited to, breaking up a gunrunning operation in the Bajor Sector in 2372 and an infiltration mission on Ekos during the Dominion War in which he worked closely with the triple agent, Mere Lindos.

Early life

Born on the colony world of New Kauai, Lt. Atoa is of mixed Hawaiian-Samoan heritage. Very athletic, he enjoys hiking and running as well as surfing. He is also very well known by his fellow crewmates on the Sutherland for his fire dance which was passed on to him by his father who had learned it from his father.

USS Sutherland

Best known for performing his fire dance at the bachelorette party for Jadzia Dax on Deep Space Nine at Captain Shelby's request (ST: DS9: "You are Cordially Invited"), Lieutenant Atoa has served with distinction on the Sutherland. He played an important role in defeating the new lifeform encountered by the Sutherland in the Bajoran Sector which had been attacking shipping in that region. He also played a pivotal role in shutting down a gun and drug running ring within the Bajor Sector in an especially dangerous covert operation in which he acted essentially alone. Also, he played a crucial role in the rescue of Captain Elizabeth Shelby, Lieutenant Anara Rysyl, and Ambassador Ralph Offenhouse from Ekosian terrorists with the assistance of the triple agent Mere Lindos. During the Dominion War, he once again participated in a covert operation on the now Dominion allied Ekos, again with the participation of Mere Lindos.

Shortly after the wedding of Jadzia Dax and Lieutenant Commander Worf, Lieutenant Atoa was promoted to Lieutenant Commander, remaining as the Sutherland tactical officer through the Dominion War.

Family and personal life

His relations with his family are strong with his father being something of a traditionalist seeking to preserve as much of the family's heritage as possible. While respectful of his father's wishes, Manuele is very much his own man and seeks to chart his own course, maintaining his heritage while at the same time embracing his role as a Starfleet officer.

Relationships

Lieutenant Atoa and Dr. Denise Murakawa have developed a fairly close friendship while serving together on the Sutherland. Manuele has also developed a much more romantic relationship with the Ekosian spy Mere Lindos.

Hobbies and other talents

Manuele is well known on the Sutherland for his Samoan fire dance which he is almost always more than willing to perform at parties and get-togethers.
