Master gunnery sergeant (MGySgt) is the ninth and highest enlisted rank (along with the grade-equivalent ranks of sergeant major and Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps) in the Federation Marine Corps. Master gunnery sergeants are staff non-commissioned officers (SNCOs).
Master Gunnery Sergeants are the premier technical NCOs. They are--by all means--professionals in their particular Marine Occupational Specialty (MOS). They differ from Sergeant Majors by staying in technical operations rather than command advisory.
