The master systems display is a LCARS-based cutaway diagram of a Federation or Starfleet starship, usually housed in engineering and/or on the bridge. Crew use the MSD to monitor the performance of various shipboard systems.
The master systems display is sometimes called the master situation monitor or master situational display.
- The USS Enterprise-D was the first televised starship to have an MSD.
Star Trek: Remington[]
In Star Trek: Remington, the traditional two-dimensional MSD has been widely replaced by a full three-dimensional MSD, which allows for a greater perspective of ship systems. However, two-dimensional MSDs are still available for use.
