Michael Baxter

"Iron" Mike Baxter was a human Starfleet non-commissioned officer who served during the 24th century. As of 2370, he had been in Starfleet for more than two decades. He was considered to be one of the most experienced soldiers in the fleet. (Star Trek: The Nomad Frontier)

Early Life

Iron Mike does not generally talk about his past, as a result, little is known.

Early Career

For many years, Iron Mike served with Starfleet's elite SEAL Teams, although for how long is a mystery. Although he was present when James Farrell joined in 2357. Even Farrell is somewhat in the dark about this. At one point, when asked, he merely replied that Baxter had been in Starfleet "since Christ was a Crewman". (ST: TNF "Archangel")

SEALs

Iron Mike is a veteran operator. He is a highly decorated veteran of the Federation-Cardassian War, and saw extensive combat there. Because of this, he regards himself as a soldier above all else. Indeed, he shows little aptitude or interest in anything else.

At one point, there was some superstition among members of his team that Baxter, who had been wounded numerous times, could not be killed.

USS Repulse

Iron Mike joined the crew of the USS Repulse in 2370, following the Eden Prime mission. Aboard the ship, his official posting is as the senior non-com in the ship's security detachment. Due to this post, he is largely responsible for training the younger crew and officers. He has earned a fearsome reputation because of this, to the point where even commissioned officers are reluctant to oppose him. (ST: TNF "Baptism of Fire")

Another reason that Baxter is on board is because of his wealth of combat experience. Captain Farrell finds this especially valuable, and Iron Mike is usually one of the first to be assigned to any away team where combat is probable.

Personal Life

At one point, Baxter was married to a woman named Polly, although they have since divorced, most likely because he valued the fleet more than her. Despite this, he feels some regret over the decision. He is fairly isolated from the crew, although he is fiercely loyal to Captain Farrell. Whether this is because of genuine admiration or a sense of personal loyalty is somewhat of a mystery. Baxter and the captain served together for many years with the SEALs.

His most prized possession is a custom made (although antiquated) shotgun, which he has named "Vera". He keeps the weapon handy for "close encounters".
