Mohican class

The Mohican class was an Hydran light explorer fielded in the 24th century. This class was second only to the Paladin class in terms of maximum evacuation capacity among non-Borg capital ships, ton for ton. Although its mass was similar to that of the Intrepid class, it had almost twice the MEC of its Federation counterpart.

History

This class has its roots traced back into the 23rd century, out of a need to field more firepower, yet solve the problem of a lack of heavy cruiser hulls.

Cheyenne class

The Cheyenne was a singular and "unified" heavy cruiser design, launched in 2299, and while rejected in favor of the traditional pair of designs, it was certainly a capable ship.

Sioux class

The Sioux was a modified Cheyenne with improved phasers, launched in 2301. Additional command facilities greatly improved cruiser squadron coordination.

Mohican class

Over the years, as the ships were refitted over and over, and the Hydran Kingdom kept an eye on what other races could field as far as ships went, the Hydran Keepership commissioned a new class of explorer, capable of operating without escorts. The result was the Mohican class, built in response to the Federation's Intrepid class, launched in 2374. It was considered by the Hydrans as the Intrepid's equal, MEC considerations put aside. Its maximum evacuation capacity was 3,700 people, nearly twice that of its Federation counterpart. When these ships were not engaged in deep space exploration missions, they doubled as prison ships.
