Lieutenant Nej'ta came to the Briar Patch on a mission to deliver important communications to Deep Space 12. He observed his captain, Kan'aj, deviating from the mission and pursuing his own personal glory; so he shot him dead and took command of the vessel. Captain Nej'ta completed the mission successfully (Star Trek: Hidden Frontier: "Her Battle Lanterns Lit"). Nej'ta is assisted by Lt. Ro Nevin in a Klingon Rite of Passage ceremony at Matt McCabe's insistence. Nej'ta and Ro complete the ritual and share a passionate kiss, which marks the beginning of a new relationship (Star Trek: Hidden Frontier: "Bound"). Corey Aster runs into a hungover Ro after Ro's time with Nej'ta, and he (Corey) suggests a walk in the arboretum. Ro tells him that he thinks he has made a mistake being with Nej'ta. He's worried that, while he has feelings for him, it doesn't seem special. Corey tells Ro that he and Jorian Dao haven't yet worked out their problems. They both consider having sex with each other. Ro suggests they go back to Corey's quarters, but Corey changes his mind and decides to give Dao another chance. Later, Nej'ta and Ro sing Klingon battle songs remembering the honored dead, and head off to Ro's quarters to spend the night together before Nej'ta leaves in the morning (Star Trek: Hidden Frontier: "The Widening Gyre"). Nej'ta loses his life during the Grey hybrid attack. Ro and Matt McCabe perform the jat'lyn over his body to warn away any evil spirits as his soul entered Sto-Vo-Kor (Star Trek: Hidden Frontier: "Its Hour Come Round At Last").
