New Azania (informally, Azania) was first an Earth colony, and then a United Federation of Planets colony, active beginning in the 21st century. (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station) The initial settlers were light-skinned refugees from South Africa and other African countries who fled Earth during World War III (Star Trek: Avenger).
- Curiously, the refugees were all light-skinned, while the original term referred to the dark-skinned indigenous peoples of sub-Saharan Africa.
David Vlekkenbaaij was born on New Azania (Star Trek: Avenger: "Belonging") in 2251.
