The New Jersey class heavy battlecruisers were a type of United Federation of Planets starship on active duty in Starfleet during the very late 2290s and the early 24th century. (Task Force Games: UFP: The Federation Sourcebook for Prime Directive)
It was the fifth and final iteration of the Kirov-class was intended for improved firepower, particularly in base assaults. The lead ship and prototype, USS New Jersey, was completed in 2297, too late for the General War. (Star Fleet Battles)
After New Jersey proved highly effective against the Andromedans, the 10th heavy battlecruiser hull was completed in 2300 to the New Jersey configuration and renamed USS Montana
The standard crew complement of a New Jersey was 401 (including a Prime Team) plus 102 surface action specialists.
RIS Bouteina[]
Leonard "Fossils" Riker served on the USS Griet, a ship of this class. Like its cousins the Kirov class and the Bismarck class, that class was based off Excelsior-class hulls. (RIS Bouteina: "Manhunt")
