North America is the northernmost continent in Earth's Western hemisphere. Indigenes of North and South America -- also known as Native Americans or First Nations -- recognize the linked continents as their ancestral homes.

Traditionally, the nation-states of the United States of America, Canada and Mexico are considered the three major countries in North America.

Alternately, the term North America, sometimes abbreviated to NorthAm (Star Trek V: The Final Frontier novelization) or N.A.(Diane Duane's novels), may mean United States of North America -- or a country named North America that includes provinces of Canada, and states of the United States and Mexico. (Extrapolated from blueprints, technical manuals and a few of the pro ST novels)

History[]

The Preservers transplanted members of many Native American peoples, such as the Delaware, Mohican and Navajo, to Epsilon Aurigae IV (aka "Amerind") in the 17th and early 18th centuries. (TOS: "The Paradise Syndrome"; Orion Press: "The Beggar's Tooth")

During the 21st and 22nd centuries, members of many indigenous ethnic groups left Earth to establish colonies elsewhere. (TNG: "Journey's End", VOY: "Tattoo"; Orion Press: In Harm's Way; Star Trek: Laughing Sawfish)

With population pressures decreased, other indigenous groups that stayed on Earth reclaimed some of their ancestral, pre-industrial ways, while adapting to contemporary realities (much like different Earth religions, such as Islam and Judaism, had to). Many of these groups felt free to establish communities on their ancestral lands, as opposed to being relegated to "reservations". At least two of these communities were on Long Island in New York. (Star Trek: Avenger: "Nearly a Valediction")
