Othoniel Ephraim Rasin was a Starfleet Ensign and Counselor assigned to Starbase 001 in 2752. (Star Trek: 001)
History[]
In the 2750s, Othoniel was a hard-working graduate of Starfleet Academy and was recovering from the death of his mother. He was eager to prove himself at such a young age and low rank and genuinely wanted to help people. Having very little experience with intimate relationships, he would sometimes get lonely, yearning for any type of close relationship. When he joined Starbase 001 as a counselor in 2752, he hoped that a relationship would show itself somewhere.
In 2752, Othoniel counselled his friend Jake Baker, who he also planned to meet up for dinner. ("New Beginnings")
Later, he counselled a reluctant Doctor Gao Gent-al who was ordered into it by Captain David Major due to erratic behavior on duty. He also counselled Commander Samantha Halliwell after she previously lost control on the USS Domtar, advising her to take a few days off. ("The Last Place You Look")
When Starbase 001 was knocked into a subspace pocket inhabited by subspace aliens, Othoniel's neural chip facilitated a communicative and assistant link with them so they could direct him into reconfiguring the station in a way that would expel it from their home. ("Alone")
After the return of the station to normal space, Othoniel was ordered to Starfleet Medical for psychiatric evaluation, of which he did not pass and was confined to quarters there. While in confinement, one of the subspace aliens, Eric, began communicating and taking a visible form with him. During an assault by Fleet Admiral Thomas Garrison and Lieutenant commander Tanik to save Rasin, Eric merged his form into Rasin's and escaped to Starbase 001, themselves. ("When It Rains...")
Personal[]
Othoniel had no living relatives and was an only child. He enjoyed learning more about counseling, liked to exercise, and to read.
Medical[]
He had a chip implanted in his brain that he used for communication purposes, while still using his commbadge, occasionally. The neural chip was connected to his brain stem, and was new technology that he of a few were testing. It also allowed him to dictate personal logs by thought. ("The Last Place You Look")
