Physical therapy (in the Federation) or physiotherapy (in the Hydran Kingdom) is a rehabilitation profession that remediates impairments and promotes mobility, function, and quality of life through examination, diagnosis, prognosis, and physical intervention (therapy using physical agents, mechanical force, adaptive devices, and movements). It is known to be a patient-centered area of medicine, which focuses on adapting the body of the patient. Practitioners are known as physical therapists or physiotherapists.

Sito Jaxa necessitated physical therapy to recover from her imprisonment in Cardassian facilities. (Star Trek: Sutherland: "Vigil")

TrainingEdit

Federation PT training was often graduate school-level, leading to a 3-year doctorate called a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Hydran and Lyran DPT programs lasted for five years (if entered without prior undergraduate education) or three years (if entered with a prior undergraduate degree). Both offered the option of earning dual degrees. (Star Trek: False Vacuum: "Wagon Train to the Stars")
