Prospero-class was a type of Federation starship constructed during the 23rd century. (TOSS)

Technology[]

This class was one of the first production starships using linear warp drive. (TOSS #23 "Linear Warp Drive")

It is a speculative predecessor to the Miranda class. Miranda is Prospero's daughter in Shakespeare's play The Tempest.

Layout[]

Like many Starfleet vessels, the ships have a saucer-shaped primary hull, a secondary hull and twin warp nacelles. The engineering hull is unusual, containing little more than the warp core and power generators. Other systems, including the shuttlebays, are crammed into the saucer section. This reflects the newness of the linear warp drive technology: it allowed the drive section to be jettisoned in an emergency.
