The Ptolemy class was a type of tug/transport that saw service with the Federation Starfleet during the 23rd century.

An initial 15 hulls were built by Chiokis starting in 2224. They were given either minimal laser armament or none at all. (Hobbyist's Guide to the UFP Starfleet and Its History, Part 1a)

The Ptolemy shared some specifications with the Saladin and Hermes class, but had two warp nacelles. The nacelles were connected by pylons, that angled starboard and to port, to the bottom of the saucer section. Between them was an interhull that could be connected to a variety of cargo modules or to a derelict ship for towing. (Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era)

In a version of the Kobayashi Maru scenario given to Kanril Eleya in 2407, the Kobayashi Maru was depicted as a Ptolemy class carrying a passenger module. (Bait and Switch: "The Universe Doesn't Cheat")

Kepler subclass[]

15 hulls of this subclass were built by 2255, complete with PB-48 warp nacelles and modernized saucer contours. From 2271 to 2272, the extant Keplers were outfit with the LN-52 linear warp nacelles. (Hobbyist's Guide to the UFP Starfleet and Its History, Part 1a)

Doppler subclass[]

This subclass and the Dollonds were designed in the 2260s to be outfitted with early linear warp nacelles but were not actually fielded until the 2290s with LN-41 advanced warp engines and improved features. (Hobbyist's Guide to the UFP Starfleet and Its History, Part 1a)

The last of the Doppler transport/tugs were retired in 2344. (Hobbyist's Guide to the UFP Starfleet and Its History, Part 1b)

Dollond subclass[]

This subclass and the Dopplers were designed in the 2260s to be outfitted with early linear warp nacelles but were not actually fielded until the 2290s with LN-64F advanced warp engines and improved features. (Hobbyist's Guide to the UFP Starfleet and Its History, Part 1a)

The Dollond-class transport/tugs saw service during Federation's war with the Cardassian Union, but were retired in 2358. (Hobbyist's Guide to the UFP Starfleet and Its History, Part 1b)
