Rachel Garrett

Rachel Garrett was the commanding officer of the Ambassador-class heavy cruiser USS Enterprise-C at the time of its destruction in 2344.

Garrett was born in 2294 to Judith and David Garrett. (Starship Creator) She was married to a Betazoid xenoarchaeologist, Ven Kaldarren, for 17 years. They had one son, Jason -- known as Jase (born in 2224). (The Lost Era novel: Well of Souls)

As a lieutenant, Garrett was a "minder" assigned by Starfleet to a Section 31 cohort. (Star Trek: Section 31)

In 2332, Garrett assumed command of the USS Enterprise-C, after an XO post on the Miranda-class USS Carthage. (The Lost Era novel: The Art of the Impossible, Well of Souls)

Captain Garrett and her Enterprise crew responded to a distress call from Narendra III in that same year. She and her crew died fighting four Romulan warbirds in an attempt to help defend the Klingon outpost. Her actions and sacrifice impressed the Klingon High Council, leading to a new era of peace and a peace treaty between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise")

In an alternate timeline, during the battle with the Romulan warbirds over Narendra III, the Enterprise-C was pulled through to the year 2366. In this timeline, created by their absence from Narendra III, the Klingons and Federation were fighting an extended war. Garrett was treated for her severe injuries aboard the USS Enterprise-D, returning to the Enterprise-C to return to the correct timeframe; however, a Klingon Bird-of-Prey attacked the Enterprise-C, killing Garrett.

Legacy

Years after Garrett's death, a Galaxy-class explorer was named after her, USS Rachel Garrett (NCC-71819). (STARFLEET Vessel Registry, May 2011)

Fanon

Sometime prior to her captaincy, Garrett had been the Starfleet liaison to the Klingon High Council on Qo'noS, where she met the USS Enterprise-B's final commander, Merdin Lury. ("Flagship")
