The Renaissance-II class was a class of Explorer starships that were active in Starfleet during the late 24th century. (HF: "Her Battle Lanterns Lit")
In 2383 several ships of this class, including the USS Helena, were stationed at Deep Space 12 in the Briar Patch where they participated in the war with the Grey such as the Battle of Tren'La.
After 2386, ships of this class were able to be refit to include a quantum slipstream drive. (Star Trek: Hidden Frontier, Star Trek: The Helena Chronicles, Star Trek: Odyssey)
Background information[]
The original Wanderer-class USS Charleston (NCC-70570) was designed by Joe McMullen. Star Trek: Hidden Frontier producer Rob Caves has said about the Helena:
"[It] was a Wanderer variant of the Renaissance-class starship used with permission of its creator, Joe McMullen. In HF tech lore, presumably, there was a non-gull-wing earlier version of the Renaissance-class that fits in the lineage of the Ambassador/Pre-Galaxy design era."
