A reporter is a type of journalist who gathers information on events and through news organizations informs others about the event.

Jake Sisko was a reporter, signing with the Federation News Service just prior to the Dominion War he covered many events during the conflict, including the Dominion occupation of Deep Space 9 and the First Battle of Chin'toka. (DS9: "Call to Arms", "Time to Stand", "Tears of the Prophets")
After his retirement from active duty with Starfleet, Jordan Dennis initially worked as a reporter with the FNS.
