Commodore Robert Earl Day served as head of the astrophysics department of the Starfleet Research and Development division, assigned to the high-energy chaos-physics laboratory facility aboard Spacedock. He was co-chair of the transwarp drive design team that worked on the Excelsior-class starship development project, and was designer of sensor arrays for ships such as the Kestral-class superscout.
