Russia is a nation-state on the European and Asian continents on Earth. Moscow is both its largest and its capital city, and St. Petersburg is its second largest city. People or things originating from Russia are described as Russian.

Between 1922 and 1991, Russia and several neighboring countries joined into a single communist entity known as the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union fought with the Allies during World War II.
