Rutgers University (officially Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey) was a university founded in the 18th century as Queen's College. Beginning in 1945, it was the state university of New Jersey, in the United States of America. At the beginning of the 21st century, it had three campuses, in New Brunswick, Newark and Camden.
In 2369, prior to taking the command of Deep Space 9, Benjamin Sisko visited Rutgers with the intent of becoming a professor there. (DS9 novel: Inferno)
Philosophy was one of the university's specialities well into the 25th century, and was renowned to be very difficult to get into for people that attended Lyran high schools. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "Post-Apocalyptic Education")
