The SS Whitcomb was an Oberth-class science vessel in service during the 24th century. Originally a Starfleet craft, it was decommissioned in the 2350s and given to the Daystrom Institute.
Dr. Bill Hoesch conducted research aboard the Whitcomb in 2358. The vessel was attacked by Orions, but was rescued by Lt. Commander Steve Tecklenberg and a group of Starfleet cadets on field assignment. (Star Trek: Pendragon: "Children of the Burning Heart")
