Battle of Betazed Battle of Benzar

The Second Battle of Vulcanis was a Dominion offensive against the Federation member world of Vulcan during the Dominion War in 2374. (LUG RPG: The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon)

Following their victory at Betazed the Dominion was quick to attempt to capitalise, striking for a second time at the Vulcanis system. A large force with a core of large heavy warships drove the Dominion all the way to the fifth planet in the system before the Starfleet Fifth Fleet managed to halt their advanced after six hours of brutal fighting.

With the Dominion's advanced halted Admiral Salok, the commander of the Fifth Fleet, orchestrated a number of daring attacks on the Dominion fleet. Hammering one of the Dominion's flanks with his larger ships. He used his Akira-class and Steamrunner-class starships with their attack fighter wings to lay waste to the Dominion's own fighters and capital ships. Destroyer wings then attacked the weak points in the Dominion's formation. Finally, he took his flagship, the USS Gibraltar, backed up with wings of Klingon warships and attacked the openings in the Dominion's fleet. The tactic was a success with the Dominion's formation collapsing.

With the battle lost the Dominion retreated back six lightyears, giving the Federation victory. However, it was a costly victory with nearly 250 starships lost and 37,000 Starfleet and Klingon personnel killed in the battle.
