The Shire was a civilian Oasis-type space station located in the Andor sector. It had a population of 1,067 life-forms. Such stations were constructed to serve as caches of supplies and equipment by civilians. Often, they grew into communities where the only law was determined by the ability to keep out unwanted intruders, similar to towns in Earth's Old West.
A senior official of the Shire was Sheriff Qwee.
In the 2260s, the Constitution-class starship USS Hood, commanded by Captain Clinton Dodge, visited the Shire as part of a Starfleet investigation into thefts of Federation transporter technology. (The Federation Files: Doppelganger)
