The Cardassian Sixth Order was a military unit in the Cardassian Guard.
The Sixth Order was responsible for deep space patrol and exploration. During the Dominion War many of the Order's assets were recalled to join the fighting. (The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon)
This Order maintained at least two outposts in the Almatha Sector. Gul Toran is known to belong to this Order. (DS9: "Defiant")
Gul Aamin Dalar commanded the Order during the Federation-Cardassian War until they were defeated at the Battle of Tol Mara IV by the Federation Starfleet Ninth Fleet, commanded by Vice Admiral Lucia Barnett. This defeat was described as "humiliating," though Dalar always maintained that he was sabotaged by a member of his own crew for unknown reasons. The defeat and Dalar's loss of favor with the Central Command eventually led to him and his family requesting political asylum in the United Federation of Planets. (Star Trek: Remington)
