The Smuggler's Coalition (or Smuggler's Alliance) was a group of pirates in the mid 28th century with enough starships to support the Federation during the Federation-Alliance War. (Star Trek: 001)

In 2752, Captain Drayson Hardgrove organized an arrangement where the Coalition would become silent partners with the Federation, against the Alliance. ("Alone")
When Betazed was conquered by the Alliance, council member Lattrel Omma was killed as a result, leaving his position open to either Lattrel Ottel or Omma's son Lattrel Glott. Glott eventually rescinded his electoral status, giving Ottel the position by default. Meanwhile, Hardgrove promised to supply upgrades to Coalition ships. ("When It Rains...")
