[The War of the Masters Continuity]

"Spiked"[]

Spiked is the second rewrite of earlier stories, including 'Coolng' and 'Pear Shaped', as written on the STO Fan Forums.

A lot of material was added to this, courtesy of co-authors Starswordc and Knightraider6 working with "patrickngo" (the handle the original creator used) and legacy material contributed by the late Sander233.

Spiked covers the period between 2407 and part of 2410 in the setting's continuity, and contains events and materials that led up to Operation: Son Tay.

Much of the story was added to clean up details and make the fan-fiction setting more complete and less....flat.

Spiked was compiled to a google document, then re-posted with the new material which was also written in google documents. Despite the best efforts of all involved, some errors crept in, including wrong dates.

One of the major changes done in the last section, was showing how thoroughly the MCDF failed. In "Pear Shaped" only a handful of kidnapped officers were even there to be recovered, and the mission was largely successful with almost no losses. In 'Spiked' the MCDF task force for Son Tay pulled 600 prisoners out in their desperate deadline, but lost half of them to enemy action or mistakes during the rush back to the Risa talks...and they didn't get everyone out, because they just didn't have ROOM.

Spiked contrasts with Kanril Eleya's POW rescue mission at Cursa in several ways. The MCDF didn't bring enough ships to get everybody out, and lost half their force (and half the rescuees) because the ships they had weren't really the best option.

One of the added parts was a creation of Starswordc rendered as a quote from the in-universe historical series "Thirty years of war". This quote 'references' the eventual failure of the Moab Confederacy, from the perspective of historians and the witnesses who lived those events.
