A squadron is a small grouping of starships or fightercraft.
The Cardassians called a squadron a dai'elk (plural dai'elkor), which was a grouping of five vessels of smaller starships such as the Hideki-class and commanded by a glinn or a kel. (The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon)
In the Dominion a squadron was a group of three to six small attack craft such as Jem'Hadar attack ships and commanded by a Vorta Vara'thoran. (The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon)
Prior to the First Battle of Chin'toka, the entire Dominion force protecting the star system was only five squadrons. (DS9: "Tears of the Prophets")
A squadron within Starfleet was usually a grouping of two to four starships or attack fighters. (The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon)
Star Trek: Banshee Squadron fighter wing[]
In Star Trek: Banshee Squadron, the term "squadron" is used very loosely, inaccurately, and interchangeably with the term "wing". A squadron or wing is simply a group of starfighters, usually numbering five, under the command of a Wing Commander.
Star Trek: False Vacuum[]
In Star Trek: False Vacuum, the term "squadron" designates a group of fighters or other small craft that numbered from five to twelve, depending on the combat ability of the craft used. Generally, the more powerful the craft used, the less craft in a fighter squadron.
