Saint Petersburg (Russian: Санкт-Петербург) was a city on Earth located in Russia. The city was known as Leningrad when Russia was part of the Soviet Union, named after the Communist leader Vladimir Lenin, and some still continued to refer to St. Petersburg as Leningrad as late as the 23rd century, although they were a minority. During the Cetacean Probe's visit to Earth in 2286, the city of St. Petersburg had lost electrical power, and the sky over the city was completely covered with clouds. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
Saint Petersburg State University operated the main American football stadium of the city, Zhukovsky Stadium, where the European high school football championship game was held in 2400, pitting the Institut de Marquain Porcelaine against the Sovetsk Direction Senior High Kants.
