A star cluster or a stellar cluster is a group of stars. The two major types of star clusters are globular clusters, which tend to be massive groups of older stars bound together by high gravity; and open clusters, which contain fewer stars, are more loosely concentrated, and are often much younger. Open clusters may become disrupted by other astronomical forces, though their constituent members will continue moving in roughly the same direction, thus forming a stellar association instead of a cluster. Some stellar clusters are within, or partially obscured by, nebulae or other astronomical clouds; these are known as embedded clusters.

Black clusters are another form of stellar cluster, resulting from the collapse of numerous protostars in close proximity. (TNG: "Hero Worship")
