The Eighth Fleet was a numbered fleet in the Federation Starfleet that was active during the 23rd and 24th centuries. The fleet was one of many that participated in the Dominion War.

The Eighth was commanded by Admiral Orben Sel during the conflict. For two-thirds of the war the fleet was assigned to the defence of Andoria. In the final third of the war the fleet was transferred to the front. (LUG RPG: The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon)
Eighth Fleet RPG
In the aftermath of the Dominion War, the USS Takeda Shingen was tasked with putting out the fires that erupted along the Federation's borders, and the USS Tethys represented the hopeful return to the spirit of peaceful exploration and first contact.
