Starfleet Science is a branch of Starfleet specializing in collecting, analyzing, utilizing and disseminating scientific data in various scientific fields. It is also known as Science Ops or Office of Science Ops.

Starfleet Science were instrumental in developing theories on how to expose undercover Changelings in the lead up to and during the Dominion War. (DS9: "Apocalypse Rising")

The department was also involved in the development and launch of Starfleet starships, as most dedication plaques showed members of Starfleet Science assisting in the process.

On July 14, 2382, Admiral Toshio Kawamura was promoted to the head of Starfleet Science. (Star Trek: Pioneer: "For Better or Worse")

Archaeology and Anthropology Division[]

One such division within Starfleet Science was the Archaeology and Anthropology Division, a group responsible for some archaeological and anthropological surveys taking place within the Federation. This was sometimes referred to simply as the Archaeology Division or A & A Division. The Archaeology and Anthropology Division had starships assigned to it, including the USS Carnarvon and USS Worsaae in 2366 and 2367, participating in an archaeological survey of Matanda in orbit of Barnard's Star. Anne Lansing, Art Finkelstein and Nancy Redwing were three members of the Archaeology part of the division as of 2366 and 2367. (Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "The Burnt Child")


Lyran Starfleet[]

The Lyran Starfleet also operated a branch called Starfleet Science. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "A Knight without Armor")
