The Second Fleet was a numbered fleet in the United Federation of Planets Starfleet that was deployed during at least the 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 25th centuries.
23rd Century[]
The Second Fleet was based near Vulcan, at least during the Four Years War. (Axanar)
24th Century[]
During the Dominion War, the Second Fleet would eventually be deployed to the Kotanka system, where it was engaged by Dominion forces. Elements of the fleet were then reassigned to Starbase 375, where it joined the Fifth Fleet in preparation for Operation Return. (DS9: "Favor the Bold")
En route to Deep Space 9 the combined Federation fleet was engaged by a larger Dominion force. The fleet managed to successfully break through the Dominion lines, thanks to the late, but timely arrival of Klingon reinforcements to the battle. (DS9: "Sacrifice of Angels")
In late 2374, the Second Fleet launched a number of attacks on the Dominion forces occupying Betazed. (DS9: "The Sound of Her Voice") The USS Persephone was the "pride of the Second Fleet" and participated in the Battle of Betazed during this time, according to Lieutenant junior grade Zachary Stiles in 2410. (Chronicle: "Best Laid Plans")
The Second's commander-in-chief, in 2375, was Admiral Richard Monroe, whose office was at Starbase 17. (Star Trek: Laughing Sawfish: "Moving the Pawns") By 2377-78, Fleet Admiral W. Summers had become the Second's fleet commander. (Ships of the Star Fleet, Vol. 4: Star Fleet Operating Forces. )
In 2381, during the short conflict between the Romulan Empire and the Federation, Romulan forces broke through the lines and attacked the fourth planet in the Gamma Hydrae system, They then landed troops to occupy the colony there. Starfleet soon retaliated by sending two Marine Expeditionary Brigades, and the entire Second Fleet to retake the planet. (Star Trek: New Order: "...The Hardest Part")
Circa 2385, Rear Admiral Sasha Cruz was commanding officer of the Second. (Starfleet Command (RPG))
- In the continuity of Starfleet Command (RPG), there were only four numbered fleets, of which the Second Fleet was one.
25th Century[]
In 2409, the Second Fleet was deployed near the Klingon and Romulan borders. Task Force 17 engaged a Klingon carrier group. (RIS Bouteina: "Quantic Fissure")
Insignia[]
At least during the Dominion War, the insignia of the Second Fleet was a number 2 with a starfield within its borders. (Star Trek: Laughing Sawfish: "The Departure")
