Station Salem-One (also known as United Earth Starbase One) was a United Earth facility established in the 22nd century. (Orion Press: "Popcorn", The Starfleet Museum Timeline, The Romulan War: "The Romulan War (Part 1)")

Jean-Luc Picard, in the 24th century, would refer to the attack on this facility as precipitating a war, though he doesn't give specifics as to when the attack happened, nor what war it fomented. (TNG: "The Enemy")
United Earth Starbase One was a distinct facility from the Federation's Starbase One of the mid-2250s, which was located 100 astronomical units from the Earth. (DIS: "The War Within, The War Without")

After Picard resigned his Starfleet commission in 2385, he began working on a history of the events leading up to the attack on Station Salem-One. (PIC novel: The Dark Veil)

Alternate continuities[]

The Romulan War[]

In the continuity of this fan film series, Station Salem-One was in orbit of Berengaria VII. The ships destroyed by Romulan forces in early 2156 included the NX-class starship Atlantis and the Daedalus-class USS Shenandoah (NC-109). The station itself was destroyed, with 6,000 casualties on the station and on planetside. ("The Romulan War (Part 1)")

Delta Dynamics[]

Starbase One was in the Algeron system in this continuity. It was destroyed in 2155. (Star Fleet Starship Recognition Manual: Report: Durance Transport)
