The Steamrunner class was a type of Federation starship in service with Starfleet during late 24th century.

The Steamrunner class is one of the more unusual designs fielded by Starfleet. The ship does not follow the usual separate saucer and engineering hulls with both sections combined into a single frame. The warp nacelles are connected directly to the hull and extend out the back of the vessel. This gives the ship a very streamlined appearance. At the rear of the nacelles connected by pylons is a housing with the main deflector suspended lower than the rest of the vessel such that from the front the deflector is clearly visible.

The vessel is also equipped with phaser arrays and torpedo launchers to defend itself and the Federation's interests. The early to mid-2370s saw the class put these features to much use in engagements with the Borg to the Dominion War.

The ship is equipped with numerous escape pods.

Like the Akira class the Steamrunner is built with a through-deck shuttlebay allowing it to accommodate a large number of auxiliary craft, including up to thirty Peregrine-class attack fighters. (LUG RPG: Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 1: The Ships of Starfleet)

Naming schema[]

At least one block of Steamrunners were named after mountains or mountain ranges of planets in the Sol system. (Ships of the Star Fleet, Vol. 2: Patrol Combatants. )
