This article is about the Lyran galactic survey cruiser class. For other uses, see stoneship.

The Stoneship class was a Lyran 25th century class of galactic survey cruisers that could also double as hospital ships. The lead ship of this class was the Stoneship (BC-347), commanded by Brianna Reiss. It was dubbed by then-Count Pfrizzek as the most advanced galactic survey cruiser in the Lyran Star Empire.

History[]

While the Lyran Starfleet was victorious during the Battle of Krypton, the Battle of Krypton revealed several weaknesses in the Lyran arsenal. It revealed that, while ESGs were useful at point-blank range, the Borg could adapt to the Lyran long-range weapons. As such, Stoneship-class ships were equipped with phased plasma torpedoes. In addition, Stoneships were equipped with the most advanced sensory and medical technology, using multiple EMHs and capable of doubling as hospital ships. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files)

Internal layout[]

Due to its long-range design, Stoneship-class ships were also equipped with the latest in passenger comfort, such as holodecks, lavish crew quarters, as well as other entertainment facilities. Likewise, its function as a galactic survey cruiser made ships of this class included a large amount of science laboratories. For its construction, Monastir-quarried granite was used in its galleys and its main corridors, as well as red marble quarried on Malachor V in the bridge and in the captain's cabin, yellow marble in the sickbay and the officer's quarters. Stoneship-class vessels carried at least three Lyran shuttles. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "Highly Illogical")

Ships of that class had higher crew quarters standards than older Lyran capital ship classes and the captain's cabin, as well as the VIP cabin, usually in use by a flag officer when onboard, was equivalent to Galaxy-class senior officer cabins, rather than junior officer cabins as was the case on Wildcat-class starships. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "Chronicles of Taladu")

Stoneship-class vessels were equipped with school facilities onboard, including classrooms. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "Educational Armageddon")

Classification history[]

During its short operational history, the Stoneships had a variety of operational classifications: galactic survey cruiser, heavy explorer, hospital ship, battle cruiser and finally, dreadnought.

When the Enterprise was launched, command of the Enterprise (or just about any other Stoneship-class starship) was considered even less desirable than command of a garbage scow. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "Highly Illogical")

The Stoneship class was refitted just a year after its entry in service in response to the Klingon Khin'Vagh-class dreadnought, with the addition of four disruptors, all of which could fire on a 360-degree arc, as well as the addition of two plasma torpedo tubes. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "A Knight without Armor")

Its refit as a dreadnought helped erase the initial stigma associated with Stoneships. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "Cruchitude Dump")
